Lougheed Laser Centre is located in Burnaby, British Columbia. It was founded in 1998 to provide non-surgical treatments for skin problems like acne, rosacea, and melasma. Dr. Marcia Fleming, a dermatologist, has been running the laser center since she bought it in 2007. Whether you are interested in laser hair removal or rosacea treatment, our team can help you.
Advantages of Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a popular treatment that is faster than electrolysis. Unlike such methods as waxing or plucking, it is long-lasting or permanent. It can also be performed on almost any part of the body, including places like the back that the client has trouble reaching on their own. Laser hair removal dates back to the 1990s and has, thus, gained a good track record in terms of efficacy and safety.
What Does Laser Hair Removal Involve?
Lougheed Laser Centre uses three types of lasers in laser hair removal procedures. The LightSheer Duet, which is considered the “gold standard,” is used the most often. It is four times faster than other lasers and is, thus, often used on large areas like the back. While it can take another laser an hour to remove hair from the back, the LightSheer Duet does the job in 15 minutes.
The SoftLight laser uses an ND: YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm that lets it penetrate more deeply into the skin. The practitioner will apply a carbon lotion that absorbs a lot of the laser’s energy and, thus, prevents the client from becoming overheated. Unlike other lasers, the SoftLight does not target the melanin in hair follicles, so it can work on clients with light hair. It is also safe and effective for clients with dark or tanned skin.
The Xeo laser, made by Cutera, is described as an “all-in-one system” that can be customized for a variety of purposes. It has several handpieces and can emit intense pulsed light (IPL) and two types of laser, including the ND: YAG laser. Consequently, it can safely be used on all skin types.
Regardless of the laser used, the patient will need to undergo multiple treatments at our office in Burnaby. Human hair has a lifecycle with three stages: dormant, growing, and shedding. All lasers work only on hair that is actively growing. The patient will, therefore, need a series of treatments to get optimal results.
