With aging skin many of the changing skin conditions are inevitable due to the breakdown of hyaluronic acid and collagen, two important aspects of our skin’s structural system. Other issues such as brown spots, facial redness and melasma are common reactions to sun exposure as the tissue becomes damaged, resulting in uneven skin tone and texture.
And as we get older, gravity works its magic so that everything on our body moves south, creating a more gaunt face and possibly jowls. We also tend to see hooded eyelids, ‘bat wing’ arms and loose skin around the knees and elbows. This is partially due to the slowing of collagen production, which produces the loss of youthful elasticity and wrinkling. Coupled with sun damage, the loss of collagen in our skin can make us look much older than we feel.
